In this section you will find out more about who we are and the work of the Local Governing Body at our School. It's important to understand what it is the Governors of our school do and the simplest way to describe is taken from the Department for Education's Governance Handbook:

 

The core functions of a Governing Body are:

 In addition, we:

  • Provide a strategic view of the school by establishing a vision and setting the purpose and aims of the school within an agreed policy framework.
  • Appoint and conduct the performance management of the Head of School.
  • Agree the school's improvement strategy, which includes setting statutory targets with supporting budges and staffing structures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the work of the school by reviewing the performance of the Head of School, the effectiveness of the policy framework, progress towards targets and the effectiveness of the school  improvement strategy.
  • Sign off the self-evaluation process and respond to Ofsted reports as necessary.

 

As Governors we play a crucial role in supporting and maintaining high expectations, achievement and outcomes for all of our children and staff. Whilst our role is largely strategic, it is important that we know our school well and as such we undertake regular school visits, gather data and information, as well as attending a wide range of different events, both within school and outside school hours. It is important that we are supportive yet challenging so that the school is able to continue on its positive journey.

In order for the governing body to be effective, we recognise the need to have regular CPD opportunities. We undertake training to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information, both locally and nationally.

 - Review the plans for achieving at least national for GLD in EYFS

- Share impact evidence to illustrate how the Pupil Premium Funding has been used to close the gap

- Immerse in discussions about the effectiveness of toolkits and impact they have upon classroom practice

- Ensure that the induction programme for new staff is comprehensive and robust

- Review pupil leadership for effectiveness
